Before you order
Know your Raymond
Read the series from the model number
Raymond groups its trucks into numbered series. The 7000 series is its Reach-Fork trucks, such as the 7500. The 5000 series is orderpickers, such as the 5500, a 24-volt, 3,000 lb truck. The 4000 series is counterbalanced trucks, such as the 4250, and the 8000 series is pallet trucks such as the 8210 walkie. Read us the full model number and the serial number, since parts change between models in the same series.
Mostly electric, so mostly electrical and wear parts
Almost everything Raymond builds is battery-electric and runs indoors on polyurethane wheels. The parts that come back again and again are load wheels and drive tires, brakes, contactors, switches, batteries and chargers, plus the chain, rollers and seals in the mast. Those are the parts where aftermarket saves you money. Late-model control cards and anything that needs Raymond's software to set up are dealer work, and we will say so.
Raymond patented the first hydraulic hand pallet truck
George Raymond Sr. bought a foundry in Greene, New York, in 1922, and in 1939 he and William House were granted the patent for the first hydraulic hand pallet truck. Raymond was bought by Sweden's BT Industries in 1997, and Toyota Industries bought BT in 2000, so Raymond has been part of the Toyota group ever since. Greene is still one of its manufacturing plants.

Diagnose before you buy
Common Raymond problems and where we would look first
| Symptom | Where we would look first |
|---|---|
| Truck runs slow or cuts out | Battery state of charge and connectors, contactor tips and motor brushes, before the control card. |
| Thumping or vibration while driving | Flat-spotted or chunked polyurethane load wheels or drive tire. Replace load wheels in pairs. |
| Forks drift down or reach creeps | Lift or reach cylinder seals, or a leaking hose or fitting. |
| Brake grabs, drags or will not release | Brake assembly wear or an electrical fault in the brake circuit. |
| Mast chatters or hangs up | Worn mast rollers, dry or stretched chain, or worn chain anchors. |
General guidance only. Always follow the manufacturer's service manual and lock out equipment before working on it.
